Iyengar

Yoga is a wonderful exercise that is made for improving one’s mind, body, and soul. It originated about 3,000 years ago in the East. Recently, it has become more popular in the West. There are many different forms of yoga that you can learn. Some focus on things like chanting, meditation and poses. Many people like to focus on one type while others like to vary their yoga practices. There are many different ways that you can learn yoga as well. Iyengar was made based off the yogi B.K.S Iyengar’s teachings. Iyengar yoga for you is focused mostly on bodily alignment. Iyengar yoga poses are created to avoid injury and reap the highest benefits possible. While one is doing these Iyengar poses they are supposed to hold each position for a particular period of time and then move to the next position. Because there is no stopping point in between positions this is what is referred to as the yoga flow. In addition, each pose within this yoga practice is considered very important and must be done accurately. Instructors state that with consistent practice you will be able to achieve the positions perfectly and confidently. Iyengar also uses props during the practice. For example, it is quite common to use straps, blocks and yoga blankets while practicing Iyengar yoga.

There are many different opinions about Iyengar yoga. Because there are so many different forms of yoga, many people feel that Iyengar yoga is ideal because of the yoga flow. Keeping continuous positions and staying in the flow is often considered better than stopping while other people believe that it is better to practice softer, less rigorous forms of yoga that promote a calm state of mind throughout the entire process. Some people do not have the physical capability to practice Iyengar and prefer to practice the less demanding types and try to work up to practicing Iyengar yoga.
