Yoga Chants

Otherwise known as “yoga of sound”, yoga is an incredible exercise that was is exceptional for mind, body and spirit improvement. Though yoga has been around for about 3,000 years it has only become more popular in the West within recent years. Within the yoga exercise there are different types of practices with all having an underlying focus on poses and the importance of mind body connection. Some yoga types utilize mediation as an adjunct focus. Some use breathing and other such things. Yoga chants are also another adjunct focus of yoga.

Yoga chants are sacred sounds that were originated during the time that the Tantra yoga and Hatha yoga traditional Hindu branches were developed. A yoga chant consists of the repetition of mantras. There are different mantras that can be used for yoga chants. Most yoga chants are written in Sanskrit and are considered the heart’s language. Throughout the years people have believed that yoga chants offer powerful transformation energy and healing.

Yoga chants are looked at as a type of prayer. Thus, people believe that when they are used during meditation you are able to be closer in touch with your inner self. When you practice yoga chants it is important to make sure that you make a clear space that is lit by candles and an oil lamp or incense will help to stimulate your body’s healing processes.

Yoga + opening chant and yoga + closing chant = lowering the heart rate, lowering one’s blood pressure, and allowing the body to create natural painkillers to alleviate any aches and pains. The yoga opening chant is important for setting the tone for the entire yoga soothing exercise. And, closing yoga chants allow a person to be able to transition smoothly after their yoga period ends.

When yoga chants are used in yoga they can be used in many different ways. You can use them while you are doing different poses. You can also use them while you are meditation and have a tape, for example, playing so that you can listen to them. And, you can use them while you are meditating. While some people might think that listening to yoga chants might distract them from practicing the exercise, in actuality it will help you go through the motions of the exercises more smoothly. Yoga chants will calm and relax the mind.
